A lot of things have been changing in my life, and pretty much all of them have been good:

First and foremost, on Monday I proposed to my girlfriend (as per Oppo's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). She said yes. She's currently living about 250 miles away, because I had to move for work about a year ago while she continued going to school. At this point, we're planning on having her move up in early January. Early January can't come soon enough.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Secondly, I got a big promotion at work and am going to be making quite a bit more money. That means I get to work on my car! (SR20DE swap?)

Lastly, while I wait for January to come, I'll be moving in with a couple of family friends, which will reduce my rent a decent amount. Even more money for my car!

Congratulations, I wish you two the best!

So you're swapping in an SR20DE, not the SR20DET?

Thanks! We're super excited!

I'm not 100% sure I want a turbo...I like the smooth progressive feel of N/A motors. If I do put a turbo in there, it'll probably be super low boost, mostly to give a moderate power upgrade, but largely for efficiency. I want to turn my car into an awesome, comfortable, streetable car. Maximum POWWWWAAAAAAA isn't my priority...at this point.

Which car?

If it's an S-chassis, go with an S14 KA24DE. It's 3v vs the SR's 4v, and can't handle as much boost, but if you're keeping it N/A, you need the displacement advantage. Valves can be enlarged, canted, and timed properly, and the more there are, the harder it is to do that.

Plus, the KA is a reliable beast with better low-end torque, which is desirable for a street car. And you can get them dirt cheap since everyone wants an SR20DET.

Just my two cents! Everything else sounds great for you guys!

Congratulations on all counts! It's not often that everything falls together in such great ways. As Groucho Marx said, "Marriage is a wonderful institution. But who wants to live in an institution?" Best of luck to you and your fiancee.

Lol, it's not an S-Chassis. It's Nissan's B Platform. As in B12. As in 1987 Sentra. :P

I think I read somewhere that the CA18DE swaps right in, but I know that the SR20 has so much support that it'd be easy to find help if I needed it.

I still haven't put a lot of thought into it, and frankly the reason I even brought it up was to bring the people like (the knowledgeable ones) out of the woodwork.

Wow, that's actually a bit of a rare retro find nowadays.

The CA still has a decent tuner base, and if you want to build ahead of the curve, it's growing in popularity as the population of capable SR20 motors is dying out. I'm willing to guess that if you're keeping it under 250HP, the CA18 is probably the universally cheaper choice, and reliability is probably a wash between the two.
